Where can I find an inexpensive generator for a windmill?

My husband and I are considering putting a windmill in our yard to generate electricity, but don't know where to find the generator to connect to the windmill. Where would we get one? We're on a really tight budget and would like to get one as inexpensively as possible. We'd even be willing to build one, if that's possible. Any and all advice is deeply appreciated! Thanks!
Additional details: My husband is the one who has done all the research and "studying". He asked me to find out a place to get the generator inexpensively.

looking for info on home based electric windmills?

The kids and I have started a scince project, with an alternator form a old Honda and a store bought DC to AC converter, we took 50 dollars of last month power bill. Now we want to see if we can do a bit more. Any ideas??

Sounds like quite the science project. (all I remember was matches and tinfoil)

With wind the difference between messing around and saving power is whether or not it is attached to the grid. This requires a more expensive power inverter (a regular non synchronized one from the store will explode). Once attached to the grid your system doesn't need as many expensive batteries since you can sell to the power company when its windy and buy when its not.

here is a expensive looking one

How can I make residential wind power?

I want to make residential wind power for my home.

I live in a built up area so I cannot have one of those massive things spinning around in my backyard.

I want to make one of those smaller windmills I always see on roof tops? Anybody have some instructions for me?

I got a simple set of instructions and in fact built three of these after I was so satisfied with the first one. I got my schematics and detailed instructions from http://www.ebooksreviewed.info/earth4energy and was on my way in no time, check it out if you're interested.

Is a windmill generator worth the investment for a suburban home?

i've been told there is a significant amount of energy being produced and the initial high cost could be paid off fairly quickly by selling the excess power back to the power company…any thoughts?

Most commercially available wind turbines require winds at 25 -30 mph before they become efficient, but a company just came out with a new turbine that becomes efficient at lower wind speeds. I can't find the article in Popular science right off hand, but it is in there somewhere.

Windmill/Wind Turbine Explosion

The braking mechanism that limits the speed of the wind turbine broke during a storm in Denmark. This was the outcome. 02/22-2008.

Bonus info:

-The tower of the mill was 60m high
-Wind speed was probably around 30 m/s
-You can see a truck at the base of the mill, but nobody was hurt. The mill had been evacuated 400m in each direction.
