Battery Power, How it Works and Renewable Energy

Battery power is an excellent source of storing renewable energy, or cutting back on our dependency on dirty non-renewable energies. Batteries can produce a significant amount of energy; the electric cars, EV1s from GM were able to go in excess of 80 mph and run for 120 miles. Those who charged these vehicles claimed to have only had an increase of about $30 per month in their electric bill. Solar, and wind power can charge a batter in peak production times and store it till it is needed. It is in this way that by the use of renewable energies we could begin to eliminate our transportations reliance of fossil fuel. Although cars are only the beginning, there is limitless potential as technology expands.

Global Energy Strategy in the UK pt 1

In two recent interviews — now available in back-to-back streaming video — World Energy Television CEO Richard Loomis discussed energy strategy in the United Kingdom with the UK Minister of State for Energy, Malcolm Wicks; and the Chairman for Renewable Energy, Prof. Ian Bryden.

In his interview, Minister Wicks fields questions concerning supply, the North Sea and the role of renewables. Further conversation includes UK plans for the oil majors and incentives for technology advanced companies to invest in renewables. The Minister also discusses renewable obligations, the advantages of high cost of oil and the UK’s efforts toward energy efficiency.

Focusing on renewables, Prof. Ian Bryden of the University of Edinburgh explains renewable targets for the UK as well as the renewable resources currently in use and being developed, including wave and tidal. He also elaborates on renewable devices being tested, the process to develop them commercially and the challenges and cost involved.

Oil Maverick Pushes Wind Power

TechnologyOil Maverick Pushes Wind PowerOil Maverick Pushes Wind PowerThe ociated PressTexas oilman T. Boone Pickens opened an advertising campaign Tuesday in an attempt to bring more focus to solving the nation’s energy crisis. (July 8)With the nation struggling under high energy costs, people are looking for answers to the dilemma, especially with the presidential election drawing near. Sens. John McCain and Barack Obama are offering different solutions. McCain has called for the construction of at least 45 new nuclear plants, while Obama considers nuclear energy as part of a broader approach, which would emphasize renewable fuels. But oil maverick oilman T. Boone Pickens believes he has the solution. And it has nothing to do with oil. [Notes:SOT: Boone Pickens]AN OILFIELD DECLINES AND THEN DEPLETES. BUT THE WIND THAT’S NOT THE CASEUnder Pickens proposal – called the Pickens Plan – thousands of wind turbines would be constructed across the nation’s wind belt, from Texas to the north.Pickens has already placed a $2 billion bet on his plan, and intends to spend more as the project progresses. When completed, Pickens says the project will generate enough power to meet 20 percent of the nation’s electricity needs. [Notes:SOT Pickens:]IF MY IDEA WORKS THERE’S ONLY WINNERS. ONE LOSER: FOREIGN OIL.Power from the project will begin coming on line in early 2011. ___ ___, The ociated Press.(****END****)

Toroidal Generator

My attempt to build a generator that doesn’t create ‘free’ energy, but will reduce the drag or Lenz effect most conventional generators experience. This is my quest to help produce more power for less fuel consumption. Imagine a generator that uses 1/3 to 1/2 less torque/horsepower to turn it!

My first attempt had 6 very small coils and produced 12 VAC @ 6 amps. The new coil produces 5 to 6 VAC (amperage unknown.) The good news: NEITHER TIME DID THE GENERATOR EXPERIENCE LENZ’S EFFECT WHEN SHORTED OUT!!

Unfortunately, the unit experiences a lot of heat (180 degrees F in 3 minutes of operating time.) I’m working to remedy this inefficiency with a different coil material other than pure steel.

Solar Tower – EnviroMission reduces green house CO2 emission

EnviroMission, Ltd. (www.enviromission.com.au; US Stock Market: EVOMY, Australian Stock Exchange: EVM) is a renewable energy developer of sustainable “green” energy solutions for the energy market. EnviroMission aims to be one of Australia’s leading producers of clean renewable energy. EnviroMission holds the proprietary rights to Solar Tower technology, a large-scale renewable energy technology based on simple fundamentals of physics — hot air rises. Solar Tower technology has the potential to offer competitive renewable energy with equal reliability to fossil fuel generators.

A single 200MW Solar Tower power station will provide enough electricity to power around 400,000 households. The energy output will represent an annual saving of more than 1,960,000 tonnes of greenhouse CO2 gases from entering the environment when compared to brown coal emissions in Victoria. The greenhouse savings equate to the removal of approximately 500,000 cars from the road. The Australian Solar Tower project consists of six distinct phases, the first two of which (project optimization and pre-feasibility commercialization) have already been completed. The third phase (final feasibility), paving the way for the implementation of the next three phases (final design, construction, and commercial operation).

Bio-Fuel toasting the Indonesian rainforests

Whilst teeming with a vast diversity of life, Indonesia’s lush rainforests are quite simply disappearing — meaning that its eco-system and climate processes are sorely being affected.

75 percent of the nation’s rainforests have already been cut down by loggers wishing to exploit the opportunity to make huge profits feeding the insatiable worldwide demand for timber.

Many of the logging companies act illegally, aided by distributive corruption at every level of bureaucracy.

The area of destroyed rainforests is almost incomprehensibly huge — an area the size of 300 football pitches is destroyed every single hour, and an area of rainforest the size of the nation of Wales disappears every year.

However once the rainforest has been taken it is soon replaced by thousands of acres of palm oil trees which, once being used merely for the food and cosmetic industries, are now seen to be hugely profitable due to the growing global need for bio-fuels particularly in China, India and Europe.

The palm oil boom is built on the ruins of rainforests that will never return.

Put simply, Indonesia’s rainforests and the so-called “lungs of the world” are going up in smoke.
